Patients who are allergic to verapamil should avoid using it as it may have mild to severe verapamil side effects. As a medication verapamil is powerful enough to inhibit the movement of calcium ions in such a way that they are forced to retreat from the cell membrane. This results in subjugating and contracting of myocardial and vascular muscle.

The medication especially serves in a positive way for treatment of hypertensions in patients above the age of 18. Again some patients suffer from severe chest pain which usually occurs due to lack of supply of blood or oxygen. Cases like these if not timely checked and treated can lead to coronary artery diseases in patients with heart problems.
In case of cardiac dyshythmia the patient may suffer from abnormal electrical activity of the heart. Here, the condition is such that the heart beat may be too fast or too slow while in others it may be regular or irregular. In severe cases of cardiac dyshythmia there can be a sudden cardiac arrest and death of the patient.
Cluster headaches are also found in some patients and in such cases the patients suffer from periodical pain in the head. This can be serious and the doctor gives due consideration while administering the medicine to avoid any verapamil side effects.
The verapamil is a white crystalline powder and has no particular smell or repulsive odor. It however has a bitter taste if taken as it is and therefore it is suggested that the patients swallow it. It is seen to be easily soluble in water, chloroform and methanol. It is also used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It usually comes in capsule form and has to be swallowed whole. The capsule should not be broken and consumed as the drug may be released at once into the system which can prove to be harmful. It has to be consumed regularly and drinking alcohol should be avoided.
It is seen that continuous dose of this medicine can impair the thinking and general reactions among the patients. Therefore, till such time the patient is advised not to drive any vehicles as there are chances of accidents to occur.
Verapamil Side Effects
There is a full post dedicated to side effects of Verapamil. The drug has mild to severe side effects in patients and almost all patients experience some discomfort while taking the medication. It is therefore suggested by the doctors that the patients who take this medicine regularly should not stand up or sit upright on the bed or walk suddenly after getting from a sitting position as this may lead to giddiness.
There is a strict diet to be followed if the patient is prone to allergy or side effects while taking medicines in the past. Grape fruit or juices from the grape fruit are to be avoided as they create some minor problems. People who are already having a weak heart or suffering from heart ailments should not use this until and unless the doctor says so and so also those having kidney and liver disease.
It is not known whether the medicine is harmful to pregnant woman yet it generally passed into the breast milk and can have serious problem for the baby. Stopping the medication suddenly can also create problems as it should be done so gradually.
Usually the patients suffer verapamil side effects like fast or slow heart beats, fever, sore throat, nausea and headache and ever rapid gain in weight.
