In the world of hectic lifestyles and activities it is not surprising for a person to be slightly wounded or pricked by objects which may be of no consequences initially. The actions of this medication on such cuts can sometimes lead to tetanus shot side effects. Tetanus has been seen as a horrifying symptom in the past, but presently although the problem remains, the disease can be taken care of with timely vaccination.
Tetanus is given to all types of people of all ages from infants to elderly people. It is the affect of the rod shaped anaerobic bacteria that contracts the muscle fibers. The symptom is more commonly found in underdeveloped countries than in the developed ones.
Is Tetanus vaccination an effective cure for tetanus?
Tetanus is mainly the result of action of the rod shaped anaerobic bacteria on the wounds of a person. The symptoms are quite alarming if proper immunization is not given and can even cause the death of the person. Tetanus affects the muscles around the skeleton and can only be prevented by timely vaccination. In extreme cases the patient has to be admitted to the hospital.
Tetanus is an infection related medical condition which is primarily caused by an anaerobic bacterium. The treatment can be done only thorough vaccination and is taken periodically in booster doses from the time an infant is born in developed areas of the world. There is inhibition in the voluntary motion of the skeletal muscles and the first symptom of the infection is seen in a condition generally known as lock jaw symptom. In such cases the patient is unable to flex his facial or jaw muscles.
After the initial progress of the disease the infection then takes on the whole body which in due course of time causes death in patients. Tetanus shot side effects remains although it is not all that intimidating as the helpless victim facing near death condition. Tetanus is no more a threat to life as it once was and it is almost mandatory for people to be vaccinated at regular intervals.
Different types of tetanus conditions affecting patients
The vaccination is the only cure for the spread of infection in human body of the patient although in later stage it may have very little effect. The most common type of tetanus that are usually found in 80% of the effected patients are ones which have a gradual descending approach of symptoms.
The person afflicted with a wound or cut gets the symptoms on the face which later spreads to the other parts of his or her body. In some patients it occurs when the patient is an infant and has been affected by the bacteria passing from the mother. This is mainly due to the fact that the mother hasn’t ever had vaccination before. Tetanus shot side effects may be noted in such cases with due seriousness.
The other type of tetanus occurs when the person is experiencing muscle contraction in the same area where the wound has taken place previously. This is a mild case and is curable. Then there is a rare form of tetanus which results in ear infection due to injuries on the head.
It is generally noted that only 11% of the reported tetanus cases have been proved to be fatal. Death cases are more for those who are above the age of 60 years as their immune system is weak and unstable for such attacks. It is also seen by experts that the further is the site of injury from the central nervous system then the longer it takes for the patient to recover and in almost all cases it leads to hospitalization. Again, it is also seen that the shorter the period of recovery the more severe are its symptoms. A significant drawback of tetanus is that it cannot be detected from blood samples. Therefore, in most cases the doctor has to study the symptoms appearing physically to diagnose the disease.
Are there any real Tetanus shot side effects?
In the previous post, we talked about pravastatin side effects. There are several side effects associated with tetanus infection and they may be both mild to serious. It is a known fact that there is a swelling that usually occurs at the place where the injection has been administered. This can again lead to fever, headaches, pain at the site, feeling weak and tired although the later is not found in all cases. There may be cases of diarrhea and ache in the stomach or the patient may even develop an allergy for the injection.
In some cases the tetanus medicine is given intravenously through drips as the patient may be recovering from other illness or is under medication for treatment of other diseases. In some cases it is found that the cause of this infection is through surgical instrument used in operation and their side effects have to be mitigated immediately with the correct dose of tetanus.
The most important fact that has to be noted by all persons is that the wound should be cleaned and the dead tissues around it should be removed. This is mainly done through surgical methods and the doctor administers the medicine before 24 hours of the wounds appearance. This is done such that there would be no tetanus shot side effects creating problems for the patient.
In the next post, I will talk about niacin side effects.
