Terbinafine Side Effects

This unique medication treats the fungal infections of the fingers and the nails of a person who have been affected by the same. The drug is a lot safer to treat with as the terbinafine side effects are not quite severe. In fact, all the adverse conditions that may ensue out of the treatment can be easily rectified with the help of other drugs.

The medicine is manufactured by the international pharmaceutical company named Novartis. It is available as a tablet to be swallowed and in the form of a cream and quickly dissolves.

In other words, the medication is a colorless liquid that has the ability to dissolve in fats, oils, lipids and others.

All drugs, including terbinafine, have their own side effects

Terbinafine is especially effective in the treatment of fungal attacks on the finger nails and toe nails. It is a slow process yet the results can be seen to quite distinctly at a later period. It has mild to moderate side effects.

Terbinafine side effects like all other side effects of different drugs are no exception yet it is relatively better as none of the symptoms are as serious as those found in other drugs. This is perhaps the reason why its application is quite simple and do not require a lot of caution. However, like all medicines this too has a few dangers attached to it which the patient should take note of. This is especially so with the case with woman who is pregnant or is breast feeding an infant. In the former it can cause harm to the unborn child while in the later case it can harm the infant.

The drug as such comes in tablet form and as a cream for application on the effected parts. The tablets are to be taken by mouth and once a day for six weeks for the affected fingernails and one a day for twelve weeks for the affected toe nails.

More of merits for this medication than demerits

The drug has to be consumed without missing a dose for twelve weeks for toenail treatment while for finger nail the medication has to be continued for six weeks without missing a single dose. It looks time consuming and the results seem to emerge only after several weeks have passed. This is obviously so for the finger nails and toe nails take time to grow.

The medication has to be kept in a tightly closed container and out of reach of children. Again, the same should be kept away from heat and away from moisture. All outdated medicines should be thrown away lest they be consumed and this in turn causes severe side effects.

Terbinafine side effects are closely seen in cases where there is an overdose. The medicine as seen in such cases has been taken absentmindedly or that a dose has been missed and in order to compensate the missed dose the patient has taken a double dose. Even medicines that are outdated could have been the cause for such side effects.

Generally side effects are rare but when they do appear it is always a cause of anxiety for the patient. If a person is particularly allergic to this medicine then the doctor could suggest a different medication altogether.

The attack of fungal is extremely ugly and can ruin your routine activities if they are not treated quickly. Even others too give you a wide berth and may not feel like coming near you thinking that they too might get contaminated. It of course, ruins the beauty of a woman temporarily. It is to be remembered that before administering the medication the nail specimen of the finger and toe should be taken for testing in the laboratory. Usually, the laboratory takes a biopsy and gives its result which in turn is seen by the doctor so as to prescribe the medication.

So what are the terbinafine side effects

Thos subscribed to my previous post would have come across the atacand side effects. It is generally seen among patients that the complaints about taste disturbances and loss of taste altogether is the main defect of the terninafine treatment. The side affect relating to the taste is so much that in some cases this imbalance is treated within a week while in others it could take a year or so. In some extreme cases there have been patients who have lost their ability to taste permanently.

Some patients have suffered loss of appetite although this is only till such time when the drug is being administered. Then there is a sudden weight loss although this is consequent to the low appetite and low intake of food. For some however, this has proved to be a blessing as they always wanted a trim figure.

In some cases of severe side effects like the taste loss the doctor may ask the patient to discontinue the medicine altogether. He or she then can suggest an entirely different package of medication to stop the fungal growth although these are not as good as terbinafine drug. .
