As stated earlier symbicort is a combination of both budesonide and formoterol. When budesonide is inhaled into the lungs, the latter quickly absorbs the medicine into its own cells and airways. This prevents the lung cells from releasing certain chemicals which may prove to be harmful to the human body as they have to remain within it for keeping the immune system working properly.
Formoterol on the other hand is a typical medicine which in medical terms is also known as long-acting beta 2 agonist. This medicine acts on the receptors in the lung called beta 2 receptors and by stimulating these receptors it helps the muscles in the airways to relax. Then with the combination of the budesonide it helps create an environment whereby the whole body assumes proper uninterrupted breathing.
The process of breathing takes place through the mouthpiece of the turbo haler used for the purpose. The patient puts the mouthpiece into his mouth as directed and inhales the medicine into his lungs. Fortunately, the patient hardly experiences the taste of the medicine yet it is very important that in the first deep inhaling itself an optimal dose of the medicine should go into the lungs.
Further, under no circumstances should the patient exhale into the mouthpiece which can affect the optimal use of the equipment. If improperly used there are chances of getting reduced results which may cause symbicort side effects later on.
Symbicort side effects
There is a full post dedicated to side effects of Symbicort. There are several types of side effects associated with the use of symbicort. Thorough studies of the same have revealed that its effect on the patients varies and the symptoms of such side effects are different in different types of patients. Some of the side effects that have been reported are headaches, throat pain and sore throat, common cold, stomach problems, yeast infection of the mouth, sinus infection and bronchitis.
Again, there are reports of side effects from patients relating to flu, back pain nasal congestion, nausea, problems in urinary tracts, diarrhea and migraines. However, these side effects are not quite serious although there are reports of a few having turned chronic. But under the proper and timely guidance of the doctor these symptoms can be greatly reduced.
There are a few warnings that ought to be followed by the users of symbicort. Firstly, the patient should stop using it immediately if he or she has allergy to it. Second patients having heart disease, high blood pressures, epilepsy or other serious disorders must consult the doctor before administering the medicine as then it can lead to symbicort side effects. Otherwise, it can generally be put to use by any one suffering from asthma or respiratory problems.
