The drug has been in use since 1960 and has proved to be quite effective in the area of heart and the circulation of blood through arteries and veins.
There is yet another type of the same medicine available everywhere and is also given for heart problems, but relating to the upper chambers of the heart. The name of the medication is known as sotalol AF.

Sotalol belongs to a group called beta blockers which help in treating heart rhythm disorders. The medication also helps in treating of hypertension is some people. The patients are given their first few doses inside a hospital under the care of the medical team.

This drug has been used to treat fast heart rythym which appears in one of the ventricles of the heart causing fibrillation. The other form of sotalol which is called sotalol AF on the other hand is used in the treatment of upper chambers of the heart. Here, in the latter case the rythym disorders are associated with the atrium and are called atrial fibrillations. The medicine tries to remove the flutter and restore the proper flow of blood into the heart.
The medication is to be used as per the prescription of the same doctor. In fact, it is noticed that the drug is marketed under different brand names. Therefore, there is a possibility of different drugs having a difference in dosage and may cause problems to the patient.
Sotalol side effects are difficult to take note of in some cases and a thorough check up is a must before the same could be confirmed.
Merits and demerits of sotalol medicine
There are several merits for taking the drug by people affected with heart problems and it gives them immense relief from life threatening conditions. The medication is also used to treat hypertensions in individuals who have shown symptoms of high blood pressure. It is quite natural to understand the link between the two as both are in many ways associated with the circulation of blood through the heart.
Hypertension or high blood pressure if not managed properly can cause heart failure and other heart related disorders. Usually daily dosage of 80mg tablet has to be taken in along with regular ECG check up. The initial dose is usually small and the doctor then increases the same gradually. During such times the doctor may advice the patient to take regular kidney and liver tests too to ascertain whether there are any side effects.
Even the blood pressure needs to be checked regularly and whether other medications are going well with solatol or not. Further, the medication is to be avoided if the patient has another surgery to be performed.
Listing the main Solatol side effects
My previous post was focused on the trileptal side effects. The patients who have chronic to severe history or heart problems may or may not be treated with this medicine. The doctor would then have to study the symptoms and determine whether a new course of medicine would be needed or not. Some disorders may not be connected with fibrillations or hypertension.
There are cases of dizziness, light headedness and fainting symptoms indicating that the drug has caused side effects on the person. In some case there is sudden increase in weight of the patient while in others it may be swelling of the hands and feet. Many patients suffer from short of breadth symptoms due to the intake of the medication on a continuous basis.
Choosing different brands of the same medicines may cause a lot of side effects and it is necessary that the patient sticks to the same brand. Then stopping the medicine suddenly may have side effects while increased thirst and slow heart beat rate might be a serious case that needs immediate hospitalization. Apart from these there can be mild types of solatol side effects for which a visit to the doctor is a must.
