Dilaudid or hydromorphone falls under the category of pain relievers. Being a derivative of morphine, both its effects and Dilaudid side effects are similar to that of morphine’s. It is used mostly for pain-relieving purposes. This drug, when used in its extended form, can be used as a part of long-term treatments. Care must be taken while using this drug because of its narcotic properties.
What is Dilaudid?
It belongs to the opioid class of medicines and is known for its high potency. It is basically a drug that acts centrally and is of the analgesic type. Being made from morphine, it is also a semi-synthetic drug or more commonly, a narcotic. It relieves pain just as fine as morphine and has made its effective presence felt in the world of medicine very well. No matter how severe the pain is, Dilaudid ensures a quick respite from it. The popularity of Dilaudid has made it a preferred choice for all those who are looking for a quick relief from the pain and related troubles.
Does Dilaudid work?
Dilaudid acts as a very good substitute for morphine. It has the capability to act like morphine and has proved itself highly effective for analgesic usage. As a narcotic, it cures cases of dry and painful instances of coughing. Patients suffering from common cases of irritation in the bronchi, resulting from the aftermath of influenza, fungal inhalation and other diseases find a lot of relief using this medicine. Side Effects of Dilaudid
In a previous post, I have spoken about side effects of Ranitidine. People prone to allergic reactions, developing due to the use of narcotics should stay away from the use of Dilaudid. Asthma patients and people with bowel disorders should also avoid using this drug. Being a narcotic, Dilaudid must be put in a safe place, to keep it out of reach of anyone who might get addicted to it. Some other problems that might prevent you from using Dilaudid are asthma, liver or kidney diseases, thyroid problems, epilepsy, low blood pressure, mental disorders, and Addison’s disease.
Some Dilaudid side effects may turn out to be quite serious and need urgent medical attention to prevent the onset of life-threatening problems. Other Dilaudid side effects include breathing difficulties, seizures, unusually cold skin, slow heart rate, confusion in the mind, weakness, dizziness, cases of fainting and lightheadedness and these are to be taken with a serious note of to prevent any untoward complications resulting from them.
