Lupron Side Effects

There are quite a few lupron side effects seen in men, women and children and the same lies in the fact that it is a hormone type injection. Lupron has the power to reduce the quantity of estrogen in woman and testosterone in men. Very few other drugs can act simultaneously in two different ways in two different conditions.

Apart from these the lupron is used with considerable effectiveness for treating other forms of diseases including prostate cancer. Here, it is widely seen that it treats not the cancer, but the symptoms of the prostate cancer. Its main function is to stimulate the body’s hormone such that their production is regulated or stops the same altogether.

Lupron treatment for testosterone and estrogen

Lupron is an artificially produced hormone type substance that when given in the form of medication performs various functions within the human body. The medication is especially used for female pain relief relating to endometriosis. In the men it helps in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Controlling the estrogen production in woman requires the lupron to act in a two pronged way. It first enters the body system and starts stimulating the ovaries. This causes the ovaries to produce more of a particular estrogen which is the most powerful form among the three types of estrogen. In another development the messenger hormone which in fact gives the signal to the ovaries to produce estrogen becomes less effective. The messenger hormone then subsequently lessens its effect and thereby the natural production of estrogen declines.

Lupron side effects for the above actions could be something like the one a woman experiences during menopause phase. In this case the medication is administered for pain relief due to a bad endometriosis. In fact, it is seen that most woman stop having menstrual periods during the intake of lupron. It is however not good as a contraceptive for there remains a good chance for woman to get pregnant during the first few weeks of the therapy.

Lupron intake and severe to moderate side effects

Lupron is taken by men, women and children although it is the doctor who must prescribe the dose after diagnosing the symptoms or the disease itself. In the children the drug is used to treat early puberty. Although the drug is used for treating certain cancers it is actually treats the symptoms only and for treating the cancerous formation on the effected areas other medication has to be taken.

Apart from prostate cancer, the drug also treats cancer of the breasts, cancer of the ovaries and endometrial cancer. It is also used for cases of infertility. Lupron in all such cases are injected under the skin or may be injected into a muscle. The medicine is generally handled with utmost care and the packing is retained as it is until the time the medication is administered.

Lupron side effects can pose a problem in case the package is tainted or damaged. The drug is generally stored in a refrigerator although it should not be kept in the freezer. Once the medication is ready for use it should be taken out of the refrigerator and allowed to reach the same temperature as that of the room. After that the medicine or its mix is to be used before thirty minutes for optimum performance.

It is imperative that the each disposable needle should be used only once and not twice or more otherwise it may have other side effects. The doctor must be told about the history of diseases or illness which the patient had suffered in the past. In case of allergies or allergy to a particular medicine including lupron the doctor’s advice should be taken seriously. In some cases the doctor might stop administering the medicine itself.

The drug can cause serious harm to an unborn child and hence the doctor must be told about the pregnancy. In many case there is birth defect seen.

What are the Lupron side effects

In a previous post, I have discussed the niacin side effects. It is seen among patients that they suffer different degrees of side effects while they are under the medication of this drug. Lupron can be dangerous for those who have epilepsy, asthma or previous depressions. The side effect can become aggravated if the patient has kidney disease, heart disease, bone cancer or is unable to pass urine.

Studies have revealed that usage of lupron for a period of time can lead to symptom where the bones of a person lose its density. In such circumstances the doctor may order an immediate scanning of the person’s bones. Apart from this, the drug is notable for inducing side effects like bone pain and therefore part of the patient’s body losses its movement, gain in weight is also seen, intense pain and burning sensations.

Further, some side effects can appear in the form of general weakness and this is in particular with one side of the body being affected and there can also be problems with speech. Chest pain and pains in several parts of the body are too in the list of side effects. While there are several lupron side effects that are generally mild, the patient however must report about this to the doctor such that he or she can administer a dose of other medication to counter the reaction.

In the next post, I will talk about the metamucil side effects.
