Lamotrigine Side Effects

The number of epileptic patients is quite small yet the number of people being affected by both epilepsy and bi-polar disorders has steadily increased. This success is quite unlikely with other medications and therefore most doctors rely on lamotrigine for such special cases.

The drug dosage is frequently given with variation and also according to the age and the weight of the person. What are the Lamotrigine side effects

The most common side effects of lamotrigine noted during the administration of the drug are quite numerous and it is their severity that results in emergency situations. The patient otherwise may experience blurred vision, headaches, dizziness and constipation. There can be lack of proper coordination among some patients while some have reported nausea and stomach pain.

The woman patient may be subject to painful menstrual periods and both male and female can show signs of general weakness with inability to sleep properly. Heightened panic attacks, chest pain, new mood swings or depressions and worsening seizures could be some of the more serious effects which the doctor must immediately diagnose and if need be hospitalize the patient.

Some symptoms that can be taken for testing are the pale stools of the patient which can show whether any other side effects besides the known ones have appeared. There are at times behavioral changes which must be reported at once to the doctor. The family members or the caretakers should keep an eye on the patient to see that he or she doesn’t do anything dangerous.
