Estradiol Side Effects

The drug is quite potent enough for medication relating to the sex related parts of the female body. It is quite like the estrogen hormone produced naturally in woman and has several distinct estradiol side effects that need immediate attention. The drug carries very high risks as among its many side effects are cancer growths.

Therefore there is every reason that the medicine should be taken under the advice of a doctor preferably a specialist in that particular area. Under no circumstances should the patient indulge in self medication as this can create a lot of problems. Again, in several instances the medication has to be administered for long duration of time.

The main purpose of estradiol medication

Estradiol is a sex hormone that is usually used for the treatment of menopause and other treatments relating to female sex organs. The medication has several serious side effects especially in case of long term treatment. The medication might require periodical check up and in some cases hospitalization.

Side Effects of Estradiol

Estradiol is used for substituting the estrogen production that is naturally occurring in the woman body. The main reason for administering this medication is when the female body produces the estrogen in very little quantities that is not quite sufficient for carrying on the activities relating to the sex organs. In some cases the production of estrogen stops altogether and this is found in woman who have menopause.

The estradiol in these cases is administered to prevent disintegration of joints in the females who are in their post menopause period. But the more important treatment is for the treatment of menopausal itself as this is quite a distinct phase in the life of every woman.

Estradiol side effects are more serious if the medication is used for long periods as this can cause cancer growth in the breasts, cancer in the ovaries and in some instances cancer of the uterus.

Continuous monitoring during estradiol treatment

The medication is used in the treatment of all types of menopausal symptoms and apart from this the drug is used to treat hot flashes during the menopausal period. Some of the woman experience dryness in and around their vagina while others feel a burning sensation in the same place and some others suffer from continuous irritation.

The medication is also given in the treatment of cancers of both men and women and this is in conjunction with other medicines. However, the reverse is the case when the treatment has been continuing for some time as then there is the risk of cancer to the sex organs.

It is seen that in the case of uterus cancer the doctor may administer progestin while using estradiol and this lowers the risk of uterine cancer significantly. However, in such cases the estradiol is taken only when the uterus is not removed. The ovarian failure is one instance when the estradiol is administered as all young women have to produce eggs from the ovaries for fertilization. Therefore, it is essential for the uterus to be good and functional as these are all interconnected with one another.

Estradiol side effects are considerably reduced if the patient makes a habit of visiting his or her doctor periodically at definite intervals of time. The doctor finds it easy to take any physical examination that the patient may require. In some cases to double check any strange symptoms the patients themselves take self examination especially to ascertain any lump formation on the breast or elsewhere.

The medication is to be avoided if the woman patient is pregnant as it can cause serious birth defects. Also the treatment is stopped if the patient is allergic to it or has been taking other medicines due to some other illness and this doesn’t go quite well with the intake of estradiol.

What are the various Estradiol side effects

In a previous post, I have spoken about the dexilant side effects. There are moderate to serious side effects associated with the intake of estradiol. The patient in many cases experience abnormal bleeding from the vagina and in such cases must contact the doctor to get advice as to whether to continue the medicine or not. In cases of liver disease, diseases of the breast or uterus cancer the treatment is not advised as this may prove to be fatal.

Even if the person has diabetes, overweight or has high blood pressure or has high cholesterol levels then the intake of estradiol is avoided and the doctor may administer some other medicine.

There may be chest pain, feeling of heaviness, pain in other parts of the body and a feeling of sudden numbness which indicates that the side effect is too acute. Apart from this there is a list of other symptoms that can be marked as the side effects in connection with the intake of estradiol.

Among the milder side effects are the symptoms of breast pain, freckles and darkening of the skin on the face, vaginal discharge and changes in menstrual periods. These are treatable and need not be among the serious estradiol side effects yet it still better to take the doctor’s advice in all such cases.

In the next post, I will talk about allopurinol side effects.
