Dexilant is a powerful medication used to control the acidity of the stomach and other related problems. It is often known in the medical circles as a proton pump inhibitor. Its main function is to decrease the stomach from acid attacks that is due to excess formation of acid. It is seen that the maximum acid formation takes place in the stomach.

The rise in acidity is due to the present lifestyle of the people who are taking a range of food and consuming them at irregular intervals. This is perhaps the outcome of their busy schedules such that more people are found eating their food while they ought to have been asleep and deep at rest while still there are others who have formed habits to eat while traveling.

Acid attacks are compounded by the stationary lifestyle of the people and very little physical exercise. Dexilant side effects can be extremely irritating and annoying during the medication.

Several advantages of dexilant as a medication

The acidity formation in the stomach leads to several symptoms especially pain and this is already experienced by most people. Some of these people initially take to self medication and there are numerous brands in the market that cater for instant relief against acidity. However, when the pain persists then the person has to go to the hospital for getting an overall check up of the stomach.

Dexilant side effects are present when the medication is taken for a long period of time. It is resorted to by the patient as it effectively checks the production of this acidity by decreasing the potential of the stomach to produce the same in huge quantities. It is thus always better to be physically fit while taking such medicines and diet control can have a better effect on the patient’s body.

The medication is to be avoided if the patient has allergy to it or might be taking drugs for other illness which do not act well with dexilant. It is better to explain to the doctor about not only your side effects, but also a brief history of your illness and past medications. This would give enough information to the doctor to deduce which medication is the most suitable one for the patient and what should be the exact dose of dexilant such that complications do not arise later.

The medication which comes in capsule form should not be crushed or broken or even chewed as there is need for keeping with the exact dosing as the doctor prescribes. If at all the patient has difficulty in swallowing the capsule then it can be sprinkled into a spoonful of apple sauce and then swallowed. After that a full glass of water must be drank so as to flush it into the system. The doctor treating a woman patient must be told about her pregnancy or whether she breast feeds her child.

What are the Dexilant side effects

In a previous post, I have spoken about azathioprine side effects. The dexilant drug has several side effects which can be treated with ease. Only in some cases do they become serious. The drug may create problems with patients who have joint degeneration and who are taking other dietary supplements. Patients have reported about bleeding ulcers while taking the medicine and some have experienced pains in their body in particularly with chest and have trouble swallowing food.

Its safety and effectiveness in children is not confirmed and therefore there should be caution while taking the medication for children below 18 years. Most commonly found symptoms are the stomach pain, diarrhea, infection in upper tract of the respiratory organ and vomiting. However, the serious side effects are itching, hives, breathing difficulty, swelling of mouth, pain in the bone and other allergic reactions.

In such cases of serious symptoms the doctor must be contacted immediately and the medication can be either discontinued or its dosage changed to suit the patient’s physical conditions. Safety warnings are those that relate to bleeding, black stools and serious stomach pain. Yet there is no confirmation about any side effects on infants resulting out of breast feeding them.

It is necessary to hospitalize the patient in case of serious dexilant side effects as then the doctor can monitor the patient much more easily. In the next post, I will talk about estradiol side effects.
