The medication treats high blood pressure, kidney damage among the diabetic patients and heart failures. There are quite a few cozaar side effects associated with the drug yet it cannot be avoided fully as the medication performs actively in controlling the above diseases.
The drug belongs to the class of angiotensin receptor blockers and has proven capabilities to treat high blood pressure unlike any other of its kind. It is also used for treating kidney damage mainly due to diabetes and is administered for heart attacks. It can be given in conjunction with some medicines yet for others it can result in side effects.
Lowering high BP and reducing strokes
Cozaar is especially used for the treatment of high blood pressures in patients and regulates the flow of blood. It is effective in reducing the recurrence of strokes in heart patients. It has mild to serious side effects.
The drug is a prescription medicine and should not be self medicated as this can result in serious side effects. It helps the risk of hypertension on patients by lowering blood pressure and simultaneously improves the flow of blood. Again, in some people who have already got some kind of heart problems it lowers the risk associated with strokes by going into action.
Cozaar side effects happen at most times although it depends upon the way these are diagnosed on the patients and effectively treated upon. In some cases for instance it can create a condition that leads to the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue of the body. This can be serious as this may cause kidney failure.
The drug helps in lowering the blood pressure by broadening the blood vessels of the body system. This results in improving the blood flow and thereby reducing the chance of high blood pressure.
Merits and demerits of using cozaar
It is seen that the hormone called angiostensin II generally acts on the special receptors of the body causing the blood vessel to narrow and thereby causing hindrance in the smooth flow of blood. Simultaneously, it again stimulates the production of aldosterone hormone which causes the salt and water to be retained within the kidneys. Now the volume of fluid within the blood vessel increases which causes innumerable problems.
The cozaar directly interferes with the functioning of the angiostensin II hormone and helps in widening of the blood vessels to facilitate smooth flow of blood. By blocking the first hormone it likewise blocks the actions of aldosterone hormone too on the kidneys. The net result is kidney fluid is allowed to move out and this action leads to lowering of the blood pressure.
Cozaar side effects may vary from person to person and depends upon each body’s strength of its defense mechanism. In case of an overdose this can lead to emergency situation and can prove to be fatal. It is seen that drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited as this may lead to sudden lowering of blood pressure. Further, the combined action of the medication can result in too low a blood pressure which could cause serious side effects that may lead to hospitalization.
There is need for abstaining from taking food supplements during the treatment with cozaar as many might contain potassium or salt substitutes until and unless the doctor has given a clearance for its consumption. It is seen that it usually takes three to six weeks for the blood pressure to return to normal. Hence, the medication must be continued as long as the doctor says so for obtaining the best results.
However, if the patient sees no improvement in his or her condition then the doctor must be informed and accordingly placed under observation.
What are the main cozaar side effects
In a previous post, I have discussed in details the allopurinol side effects. For Cozaar, there are several side effects that can be observed while a person is taking the drug as part of his treatment. The drug should not be used by woman who is pregnant as it can prove to be harmful to an unborn child. In rare cases the medication can cause the skeletal muscle to break down leading to kidney failure.
If patients have previous problems with their kidney, liver or heart then the doctor may suggest a dose change or ask the patient to conduct special tests. In case the patient finds himself or herself in dehydrated condition then it is a sure sign of side effect.
Certain symptoms like the feeling that the person might pass out, pain or burning while urinating. Again, some people experience short of breadth, rapid rate of heart beats, has trouble concentrating, chest pain and other symptoms. These are quite serious side effects and should not be taken lightly by the patient or the doctor.
Further there are a few less serious symptoms and these are like flu, dry cough, pain in some parts of the body, headaches and sleep problems. The lists of both the serious and less serious side effects are not limited to these and there may be others too. In all such cases cozaar side effects should be treated properly
The next post will be fully dedicated to the digoxin side effects.
